Del Rey announced three new manga acquisitions at New York Anime Festival, plus the second volume of its Tsubasa Character Guide.

Moyasimon:  Tales of Agriculture, by Masayuki Ishikawa, features cute microorganisms visible only to a freshman at an agriculture university.  This otaku-friendly series combines comedy, scientific facts, drama, and merchandising potential (the microorganisms were a merchandising hit in Japan).  It will launch in Fall 2009.

In the shojo manga Amefurashi, by Atsushi Suzumi, the title character is a rain goddess who’s a cute little girl with the fate of a Japanese village in her hands.  Suzumi is the creator of Venus vs. Virus, and the co-creator of Haridama:  Magic Cram School.  Amefurashi is set for July 2009.

Maid War Chronicle, by Ken Akamatsu collaborator (Mao-chan) RAN, is a high concept story of five maids of the Prince of Urbansberg Kingdom, who must be warriors to save the day when the kingdom is invaded.  It’s slated for May 2009.

Tsubasa Character Guide 2 will cover the CLAMP characters in volumes 8-14, including details on crossover characters from other CLAMP series.  The volume will include new full-color art and a fold-out poster.  It’s due out in Summer 2009.
