Anne Hathaway Joins 'Alice' Cast

Helena Bonham Carter Does As Well

Anne Hathaway, who is receiving some early Oscar buzz for her role in Rachel Getting Married, has joined the cast of Tim Burton’s live action/performance capture adaptation of Lewis Carroll’s Alice in Wonderland.  Hathaway will portray the benevolent White Queen, who is deposed by the demented (“Off with their heads!”) Red Queen, who will be portrayed by Helena Bonham Carter, Tim Burton’s domestic partner and a mainstay in his recent films.

Burton’s film stars Mia Wasilkowska as Alice and Johnny Depp as the Mad Hatter (see “Depp Does Burton’s Alice”).  Burton is the epitome of the 21st Century “cult” director with a string of quirky gothic-tinged “hits” behind him including Edward Scissorhands, Ed Wood, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, The Nightmare Before Christmas (producer), and Sweeney Todd.
