Crunchyroll has announced that starting on January 8th the latest episodes of the shojo anime series Skip Beat and Shugo Chara will be available to subscribers of Crunchyroll along with the previously announced Naruto (see “Crunchyroll Goes Legit”).  The addition of the two new series is the latest fruits of Cruncyroll’s deal with TV Tokyo, which is involved in the production and airing of both series.

The Skip Beat anime series, which is produced by Hal Film Maker, debuted in Japan on October 5th.  It is based on the manga by Yoshiki Nakamura about a 16 year-old girl who gets revenge on her pop idol boyfriend by becoming a bigger star herself.  The Skip Beat manga is published here by Viz Media and is a regular in ICv2’s list of the “Top 25 Manga Properties.”

The Shugo Chara anime, which is based on the magical girl manga created by Peach-Pit (published here by Del Rey), debuted in October of 2007.  A second season, Shugo Chara!! Doki, debuted on October 10th 2008, and will likely provide the “newest episodes” of Shugo Chara promised by Crunchyroll.

Crunchyroll, which has been providing access to several series from Gonzo (see “Gonzo Series Available for Download”), has promised that the three series announced so far from TV Tokyo will be joined by “many other titles.”
