In an interview with IESB.com Evan Rachel Wood has confirmed that she will take on the role of Mary Jane Watson in Spider-Man: The Musical.  Top flight director Julie Taymor (The Lion King) is helming The Spider-Man musical with Bono and The Edge of U2 providing the music (see “Spider-Man Musical”).

Wood told IESB that rehearsals for the show will begin next June, which if it holds, could put the Spidey show on Broadway in 2010.  Wood would not confirm that Jim Sturgess, who starred with her in Across the Universe (also directed by Taymor) would be essaying the role of Peter Parker.  According to Wood, they are “still trying to convince him.”
