Hasbro Withdraws Scrabulous Suit

Brothers Changed Wordscraper

Published: 12/16/2008 02:01am

Hasbro withdrew its suit against the Calcutta brothers who developed Scrabulous last Friday.  The Facebook Scrabulous application had been shut down around the world after litigation by Scrabble rightsholders, which include both Hasbro and Mattel.

The Agarwalla brothers then created a new application, Wordscraper, that quickly attracted a fan base (see “Scrabulous Fans Turn to Wordscraper”) far beyond that attracted by official Scrabble online games.  According to a statement released by the brothers, they made changes to Wordscraper to make it more clearly different from Scrabble as a condition of the settlement, and they agreed not to use the term Scrabulous.
