American McGee’s Grimm, an episodic video game that debuted on Game Tap, is about to come to comics via a 5-issue mini-series from IDW that will debut in April just after the launch of Season 3 of AMG on the subscriber-based online game service in early 2009.  In American McGee’s Grimm, the idiosyncratic game designer American McGee, who is perhaps most famous for his “Gothic” take on Alice in Wonderland (American McGee’s Alice), has unleashed a macabre dwarf named Grimm to wreak havoc on the already dark fairy tales of the Brothers Grimm.

IDW’s American McGee’s Grimm takes the game’s high concept and tweaks it by allowing Grimm to unleash his dark magic across five very familiar comic book universes.  In the first issue Grimm exits the fairy tale realm to find a sunny superhero world where he promptly kick starts “Crisis on Earth 57” with a little “Secret Invasion” of his own.

After darkening the world of superhero comics in issue one, Grimm will take on romance comics, western comics, teenage high school soda shop sagas, and funny animal books in the remaining volumes of IDW’s 5-issue series, which is being written by Dwight MacPherson and illustrated by Grant Bond.
