Ernie Barbarash has signed on to direct and adaptation of Studio 407’s Hybrid comic, written by Peter Kwong.  Barbarash was a co-producer on American Psycho.  He also wrote and directed Cube Zero and Stir of Echoes: The Dead Speak, and he helmed the Canadian horror film They Wait.  Earlier this year Myriad Studios optioned the Hybrid comic, which was produced by the Bangkok-based Studio 407 (see “Myriad Pictures Options Comic”) that melds Eastern and Western comic and storytelling traditions.  The 120-page Hybrid graphic novel, which collects the first four Hybrid comics, is due from Bluewater Productions in February.

Hybrid is an eco-horror comic about a group of students vacationing in the Gulf of Thailand, who happen upon what they think is an abandoned trailer, though they soon find out that it is the nest of a mutant creature born from environmental abuse that fishes for humans using a little girl as bait.
