After Anderson News announced that it was imposing a charge of $.07 per magazine it distributes, warning of an “implosion” in the magazine business, Source Interlink, a second magazine wholesaler, announced similar charges this week, according to Folio Magazine.   The two companies combined account for over 50% of the magazines distributed to newsstand-style accounts in the U.S.   Like Anderson, Source Interlink is trying to impose the charges as of February 1st.

Folio quoted John Harrington of the New Single Copy newsletter as estimating that if the charges catch on industry-wide, publishers would be paying over $250 million a year more in distribution costs.
