CBS Consumer Products has ramped up its Star Trek licensing in the run up to the release of J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek movie, which will debut on May 8th (see “Best in Shows: 2009, Part I”).  In addition to the previously announced Star Trek Barbie Dolls, which will be released on April 20th, Mattel has also acquired the rights to create radio-controlled flying vehicles for its Tyco subsidiary, a Star Trek Scene-It DVD movie/TV game, and a 20Q Star Trek Trivia Game.

 

Other game tie-ins include a Star Trek-branded Monopoly edition from USAopoly, and co-branded games for UNO, Scrabble, Magic 8 Ball, Phase Ten, and All About Trivia. 

 

CBS has also signed up a number of apparel licensees including Briefly Stated, E.S. Originals, and AME.

 

The key licensees for Abrams’ Star Trek move include IDW Publishing, which is producing the 4-issue Star Trek Countdown mini-series that links the Next Generation era to the new movie, Playmates Toys, which is producing a wide range of figures, role-playing toys, ships, and playsets (see “First Look at Star Trek Toys”), while Rittenhouse Archives is producing a series of trading cards based on the new Star Trek movie.
