Funimation Entertainment has confirmed that it will release the Fullmetal Alchemist: Premium Collection OVA in late 2009.  The single disc will contain four FMA shorts that total 25 minutes of running time.  The key release on the disc is the 10-minute “Seven Homunculi vs. the State Alchemists,” a what –if saga that pits the two main factions of the FMA saga against each other.  The first 51-episode Full Metal Alchemist anime series, which received generous exposure on the Adult Swim, dominated the first annual anime American Anime Awards in 2007.  A second FMA series is slated to debut in Japan in April (see “New Full Metal Alchemist Anime Series”).

According to the Anime News Network the two other animated shorts that will be included on the disk are “Chibi Party,” a six-minute romp featuring “chibi” (super-deformed) characters, and “Kids,” another six-minute animation with childlike characters who look like the three main FMA characters (Edward, Alphonse, and Winry) in a contemporary Japanese City.  The other short is accurately entitled “Live Action” and it features a full size Alphonse statue walking around Tokyo and visiting the Bones studio.

Extras on the disc include a picture gallery and clips from the FMA tour at Universal Studio’s amusement park in Japan.
