At the Viz Media panel at the New York Comic Con, the nation’s leading manga publisher revealed that it will be publishing the new, as-yet-unnamed, Rumiko Takahashi manga series.  Takahashi, creator of Inuyasha, Ranma 1/2, Maison Ikkoku, One Pound Gospel, and Urusei Yatsura among others, is widely considered the most successful and wealthiest manga-ka in Japan.  She is easily the bestselling female comics artist in history. Her manga series have sold more than 170 million copies and have been adapted into highly successful anime productions.

Her new series will begin appearing this spring in Shogakukan’s popular Weekly Shonen Sunday manga anthology magazine where her work has appeared since the 1980s.  Viz Media will begin publishing the new Rumiko Takahashi manga “later in 2009.”  Look for more details in the coming months.
