Hasbro hits Toy Fair 2009 armed with a lengthy list of releases, laying out its 2009 plans for its major game and toy lines. The biggest announcements promoted new toy lines from upcoming live-action movies G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, and Origins: Wolverine, all due for release in summer 2009, as well as a new suite of toys based on the animated Star Wars: The Clone Wars series.
The barrage of G.I. Joe products includes 3 ¾” and 12” character figures, as well as Accelerator Suit Duke, which can “run” on its own and is programmed with over 50 phrases. Also on the docket is a host of vehicles, ranging from the Joes’ Armored Panther to the iconic Night Raven Cobra jet. Other products announced include the Snake Eyes Role Play Set, which includes a mask and ninja sword, cartoonish Combat Heroes action figures, and Tough Troopers, designed for rougher play.
Meanwhile, Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine will be well represented on toy shelves this summer, with 3 ¾” action figures of heroes and villains from the film and the electronic 10” Triple-Blade Wolverine figure, which features sounds and battle phrases. The Wolverine Electronic Claw lets kids “act like the most intimidating of all the X-Men,” and includes sounds and phrases from Wolverine himself.
And Star Wars continues to chug along, with a new series of toys based on the Clone Wars animated series. The biggest (literally) item is the Clone Turbo Tank, a vehicle capable of carrying up to 20 clone troopers. Other vehicles include the Y-wing, and Arc 170, as well as two-packs that combine a vehicle and pilot action figure, in 3 ¾” scale. Other highlights include a remote-control R2-D2 (6” tall), the double-bladed Dual Action Lightsaber, and the Droid Factory customizable set of 12 3 ¾” inch figures.
