Although no formal announcement has yet been made in the US (it's planned for the upcoming Licensing Show June 11-13), Pioneer has confirmed to us that it has acquired the rights to the Lupin III TV series in the US.  Lupin III is probably the longest-running anime series that has not yet been released on video in the US, with over 200 episodes from three different series available.  FUNimation picked up the rights to several Lupin III movies last year (see 'FUNimation Signs Lupin III'), but the TV series have never been seen here.

Such details as are available are from reports published in Japan and picked up by American anime sites, including Anime News Service and Anime News Network, and are often second-hand, but enough details are consistent that it seems clear that TV and video rights are both involved, with theatrical and merchandise rights mentioned in some reports.  It appears to be a seven-year deal for the US and Canada.
