Topps will release cards based on Terminator Salvation, the fourth film in the series (see “Best in Shows 2009 Part 1”), in May. There will be limited mass and specialty retail distribution; hobby is expected to be the most important channel for this product, according to Topps VP Ira Friedman. Release in hobby will probably be slightly ahead of mass.
Topps’ Terminator Salvation series is a 90-card set, with movie images that include key effects sequences. MSRP is $2 per pack. The box is 24-count.
Robot insert cards in Embossed Foil and Pop-Up Battle Cards enhance the set. Artist Sketch Cards, Authentic Autograph Cards, and Memorabilia Cards with actor-worn costume materials are also included. Hobby boxes will include one “hit” per box.
“Terminator has the right ingredients to be a terrific trading card program,” Friedman said. “There are few properties which can be considered a pop-culture icon, with multi-generational appeal and paroven history of merchandising success. The Terminator franchise hits the mark on all counts.”
