Sales at Quebecor World, the largest comic and graphic novel printer in North America, dropped 25% in the first quarter of 2009 due to the recession.  The company lost $125.9 million in the quarter, an improvement from the $190 million loss in the year ago period.  The company’s operating loss was $30.1 million; EBITDA was $35.6 million, down from $74.2 million in Q1 2008.   The company says its EBITDA earnings are “in line with management’s expectations.”

Quebecor World, which is hoping to emerge from bankruptcy this summer, recently received an unsolicited offer from R.R. Donnelley (see “Donnelley Takes Run at Quebecor”).
