Viz Media is releasing the first Naruto Shippuden DVD on September 29th.  Naruto Shippuden Vol.1 (MSRP $24.92) will include four uncut, unedited episodes (100 minutes total) with both an English dubbed track and the original Japanese track (with available English subtitles).  The DVD version is the only way that fans can obtain the English language version of Naruto Shippuden—subtitled versions have been streamed online concurrent with their release in Japan (see “Free Naruto Anime in U.S. Days After Japan”).

Viz Media plans to issue the second Naruto Shippuden DVD, Naruto Shippuden Vol.2 (MSRP $24.92) on October 27th.  Naruto Shippuden (literally “Naruto: Hurricane Chronicles”) is the sequel to Masashi Kissimoto’s ninja saga, and features older versions of the series’ beloved characters.  The Shippuden chronicles began in the manga with Volume #28, while the Shippuden anime episodes began running on Japanese TV in February of 2007.

Viz Media has not yet announced whether it will issue box set collections of Naruto Shippuden.  There are currently four series of Naruto Shippuden DVDs available in Japan, each of which chronicles a different story arc.

At Anime Expo Viz Media announced the November release of the first Naruto Shippuden movie, but when contacted by ICv2, a spokesperson said that no details on the release of Naruto: Shippuden the Movie, which was released in Japan in 2007, are available yet.
