A movie based on Mattel’s Max Steel property is in the works at Paramount, where Joe Roth will be executive producer, according to Variety.  The property originated as a toy line in 1999.  Thirty-five episodes of a Max Steel animated series were aired in the U.S. between 2000 and 2002.  Five OVAs were later produced for Latin America, where the property has been much more popular; one was released in the U.S.  Mattel hopes a movie will relaunch the property in the U.S.

The title character is an extreme sports star who acquires superpowers when he’s exposed to nanomachines

A promotional comic, written by current DC SVP Richard Bruning, was included with the first Mattel toy line release in 1999.
