A few more details have become known since our first report on the organizational changes at DC Comics (see “Warners Forms DC Entertainment”). First, and of biggest note to the comics world, new DC Entertainment President Diane Nelson will not serve as publisher of DC Comics. A new publisher is being sought, and current president and publisher Paul Levitz (see “One of the Best Jobs on the Planet,” and “Levitz’s Incredible 36 Years”) will be part of that search. The new publisher will report to Nelson.
Nelson will report to Warner Bros. Picture Group President Jeff Robinov “in order to best capitalize on DC Entertainment’s theatrical development and production activities.”
Nelson is not new to DC’s properties, as President, Warner Premiere, she was in charge of the development of DC’s direct-to-DVD features and motion comics.
Nelson will continue to oversee the Harry Potter property for Warners, but will move from her current position as President, Warner Premiere (retaining oversight of the division) soon.
Among Levitz’s consulting duties, he will “advise DC Entertainment on creative and rights-holder reltaionships, in particular regarding the legacy relationships that have been a part of DC Comics for decades.”
Levitz plans to write Adventure Comics, scripting the adventures of his long-time charges, the Legion of Superheroes, according to Newsarama.
