Disney Studios Chairman Dick Cook has announced that a new Muppet movie is in active development.  Currently titled The Cheapest Muppet Movie Ever Made, the new film is being written by Jason Segel, who co-stars in the TV series How I Met Your Mother and who wrote and starred in the hit theatrical comedy movie Forgetting Sarah Marshall.

The film is supposedly based in part on an original concept by Muppet creator Jim Henson, who envisioned Gonzo getting the chance to make a Hollywood movie and then blowing the entire budget on the credit sequence.

No release date has been announced for The Cheapest Muppet Movie Ever Made.  But given the history of the license and the large number of Muppet products that have been released across a wide range of merchandise categories, the potential revival of the puppet property could provide opportunities for a variety of different retailers.
