Target.com has joined in the price war between Amazon and Walmart on advance orders of top-selling books, marking some of the most anticipated hardcovers of the season down to a money-losing $8.99.  Walmart and Amazon ended up at that price last weekend, after Walmart started the markdowns with a $10 price point on Thursday (see “Online Book Price War”).

Walmart has also marked down a number of in-stock bestsellers, such as Where the Wild Things Are, to around 50% off retail, undercutting Amazon's price.
