Best Buy Fires Back

In DVD Price War

Published: 11/16/2009 01:52am

Best Buy plans to sell Blu-ray catalogue titles as low as $7.99, and will match or beat Target’s prices as low as $3.99 for recent DVDs (see “Dark Knight DVD $3.99”).

In addition to matching Target’s $3.99 price for The Dark Knight, released roughly a year ago, Best Buy will sell Watchmen, released just a few months ago, for $6.99.

Blu-ray titles such as V for Vendetta and Star Trek:  Wrath of Khan will be sold for the $7.99 price.  The Blu-ray version of X-Men Origins:  Wolverine, released early this year, will also be under $10, at $9.99.

The DVD price wars, started by Walmart with aggressive discounting online (see “Walmart Opens New Front in Online Price War”), are now spreading in stores.
