WizKids has launched the HeroClix Marvel and DC Classics line as an effort to break into the mass market with a new entry point for consumers 10 to 12 years old.  The $6.99 three-packs offer selections of figures based on the most popular Marvel and DC characters, such as Spider-Man, Batman, and Superman) and their appropriate villains packaged in non-blind blister packs.

HeroClix Marvel and DC Classics have been launched at Toys R Us in the action figure aisle and will appear in Barnes & Noble, with more chains to follow.  Iron Man Classics will appear in the Toys R Us boutiques around the release of Iron Man II.  The product line is being made available to the hobby as well.

Roughly six SKUs of an eventual 22 are in market now.

WizKids is also releasing two simple board games, based on Gremlins and Freddy vs. Jason, designed for specialty retailers such as Hot Topic and Spencer’s.  The games use HorrorClix figures without the Clix bases.  At $12.99, the games target an impulse buyer that loves the IP.
