BBC America has announced that the fifth season of Doctor Who will premiere in the U.S. on April 17th, two weeks after its UK premiere.  The fifth season has a new Doctor, Matt Smith (see “Matt Smith Is New Doctor Who”), a new assistant (Karen Gillan see “Doctor Who’s New Assistant”), and a new showrunner (Steven Moffat, see “Doctor Who at Comic-Con”).

Although the announcement calls the premiere date “soon after the UK broadcast,” the two-week difference means that many Doctor Who fans in the U.S. will resort to filesharing sites to shorten the wait.
