Plans are afoot to re-release Avatar with additional footage, according to Hollywood Reporter.  The new release would take place in late summer or fall, and would most likely include about 10 minutes of new scenes.  Avatar was still pulling big bucks from 3D Imax screens until last weekend, when Alice in Wonderland pushed it off most of them (see “Alice Surprises with $116.3 Million”).

Although Cameron has said he has as much as 40 minutes of additional material, only about 10 minutes could be added to the film in order to qualify for analog Imax theaters, which max out at 170 minutes.  Additional scenes that Cameron has said he has nearly ready include one in which Jack Sully’s avatar proves himself to the Na’vi, and another that depicts a native festival.
