Dynamite Entertainment has announced the acquisition of Warren character Vampirella from Harris Publications, its current owner. Dynamite CEO Barrucci said of the acquisition, “Vampirella is one of the most well known and longest running comic characters in the history of the business.  Outside of Marvel and DC characters, very few comic characters that debuted in the 60s still resonate with fans today.”

The character originated in the eponymous Warren Publishing comic magazine title in 1969 and was published through the 70s.  Harris has been publishing the title since the 90s.  Top talent including writers Alan Moore, Mark Millar, Grant Morrison, Jeph Loeb, and Warren Ellis; and artists Joe Quesada, J. Scott Campbell, Michael Turner, Jae Lee, Adam Hughes, and many others have worked on the title during its long history.

A feature film went direct to Showtime in 1996.

Dynamite has not announced when its first Vampirella products will be released.  The company declined to answer the question of whether the acquisition included existing editorial material, but it seems likely that the material from the Harris era, at least, is included.
