Anaheim Steps Up Comic-Con Efforts

Direct to Fans

The Anaheim and Orange County Convention and Visitors Bureau has launched a campaign to convince the organizers of San Diego Comic-Con that its proposal to move the show to Anaheim (see “Comic-Con Wooed by Anaheim”) should be accepted.  The campaign, centered on a “Bring Comic-Con International to Anaheim” page on Facebook, is listing the “Top 8 Reasons to Move Comic-Con.”  The top two reasons focus on issues that continue to be problems for the show this year:  convention center capacity and hotel rooms.

Anaheim is the largest convention center on the West Coast, and would allow Comic-Con to increase its attendance, which has been maxed out for the last several years.  The show is on the verge of selling its last tickets for this year’s show—Sunday is the only day still available.

And hotel rooms continue to be a problem despite Comic-Con’s efforts to widen the number of available rooms for its attendees.  Hotel rooms booked through the convention’s housing bureau once again sold out in a day, leaving out-of-luck attendees to the mercies of hoteliers pricing their rooms up to take advantage of a seller’s market.

Other reasons to move listed by Anaheim include its location in a larger population center, four airports instead of one, the other activities for families and attendees in the vicinity, and the safety of Anaheim.
