ICv2 caught up with Steve McQuillan of Catalyst at the recent Gama Trade Show, who provided some info on the new Battletech HexPack Maps.  These improved map boards will be included in the upcoming Battletech 25th Anniversary Introductory Box Set, scheduled to release this summer.

The new maps will be printed on thick, sturdy boardstock, rather than the thin paper maps provided in earlier versions of the game.  The new map boards will be double-sided, with different terrain features on each face.  Punch-out terrain pieces will also be included, allowing players to create a wide variety of custom battlefields. The new maps and terrain pieces will be fully compatible with earlier Battletech products.

The new Battletech Introductory Box Set will include the new deluxe map boards, as well as 26 plastic miniatures, 12-page quick-start rulebook, 80-page full-color rulebook, 36 record sheets, 56-page full-color background book, a painting and tactics guide, and support tables.  Suggested retail is $49.99.

The new and improved map boards are also available separately in the HexPack Maps set.  The HexPack Maps will have a suggested retail price of $24.99.  They are expected to release in May 2010.
