Reliance Big Pictures, IM Global, and DNA Films are financing a new live action Judge Dredd film in 3D, according to Hollywood Reporter.  The film will be directed by Pete Travis from a script by Alex Garland (28 Days Later).  Shooting is expected to start this year, according to the report.  A budget of $45 million is planned.

This project was originally announced in December of 2008 by Rebellion and DNA, with plans to begin shooting in 2009 (see “New Judge Dredd Film Green Lit”).  Reliance Big Pictures and IM Global have joined the project since that announcement.

John Wagner, the writer who co-created the character (with Carlos Ezquerra) in 1977 for 2000 AD, the weekly UK comics magazine, will be a creative consultant on the film.
