Warner Bros. has acquired the rights to the graphic novel 3 Story: The Secret History of the Giant Man by Matt Kindt.  Dustin Lance Black, who won an Oscar for penning the screenplay for Milk, will both write and direct the adaptation of the graphic novel, which is published by Dark Horse.  Black made his directorial debut with the as-yet-unreleased indie drama, What’s Wrong With Virginia, which stars Emma Roberts and Jennifer Connelly, and he also wrote the screenplay for Clint Eastwood’s latest project Hoover, a biopic based on the life of FBI director J. Edgar Hoover.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the acquisition is a bit of a stretch for Warner Bros. because “the material is on the arty side and downbeat too,” but Black’s version reportedly “softens the melancholic ending.” Dark Horse’s Mike Richardson will produce the film through his Dark Horse Entertainment along with Keith Goldberg, while Lynn Harris and Matthew Milam will produce for Warner Bros.
