Avalon Hill has announced the updated and revamped Betrayal at House on the Hill will be released in October of this year.  This upgraded version of the game includes eight new haunts and a new “hidden traitor” mechanic.

The original version of the game was released in 2004, and was awarded the Gamers Choice Award for “Best Board Game” of that year.  The first edition has been out of print for some time.  The new edition has been updated and expanded with new haunts, new game mechanics, and new item cards.  The components have been upgraded with new artwork and tokens that are easier to use.  The designers also revisited some of the original game scenarios and rebalanced them to improve gameplay.

Betrayal at House on the Hill is a cooperative boardgame for three to six players.  The setting is a classic haunted house, complete with mysterious goings-on.  The game board is composed of tiles representing rooms and hallways of the house, so the layout can be different in every game.  The players explore the house, seeking clues as to the nature of the “haunt” that inhabits it, and how to defeat it.  Events within the game can cause one of the players to turn against the others, hence the “betrayal” in the game’s title.

The game includes six pre-painted plastic miniatures, 80 cards, two scenario booklets, 45 room tiles, dice, and tokens.  The suggested retail price will be $50.00.
