A deal for a live action/CGI film based on the Pluto manga has been signed by Illumination Entertainment and Universal, according to Deadline.  Illumination was responsible for the summer hit Despicable Me, which has grossed over $360 million worldwide. 

 

The Pluto manga (see “Review of ‘Pluto’”) is based on characters from Tezuka’s Astro Boy and was created by Naoki Urasawa and “god of manga” Osamu Tezuka.  The eight volumes have sold 8.5 million copies in Japan.  It’s published in the States by Viz Media.
