The Eagle Awards, given for comics published during 2009, were announced this past weekend at MCM Expo in London.  The awards have been given since 1977, and are selected by popular vote.  This year votes came in from over 100 countries, according to the organizers. 

The awards have been announced at conventions throughout their history.  Most recently, they were announced at the Bristol Comics Expo.  The organizers announced a long term deal with MCM Expo earlier this year.
