For the third year, the American Library Association is sponsoring a National Gaming Day on November 13th.  Over 1800 libraries have joined the program, scheduling both electronic and non-electronic game events for the day.

Intended to promote the educational, recreational, and social value of all types of games, National Gaming Day features a variety of game-related events.  Libraries across the US as well as Argentina, Canada, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, Pakistan, and Puerto Rico will be participating.

Game activities in the libraries will include both modern and traditional board games as well as electronic games.  There will be two video game tournaments where participants in different libraries will have an opportunity to compete against each other.

The 2009 National Gaming Day involved over 31,000 participants.  The organizers of this year’s event expect to easily exceed that number.

National Gaming Day is co-sponsored by North Star Games, publisher of Wits & Wagers, and DEMCO, the nation’s largest supplier of equipment for libraries.
