The movie started shooting last spring, and now the Smurfs are starting to get traction; the Smurfs Village iPhone game is now outgrossing perennial bestseller Angry Birds, which has sold over 10 million games. 

Angry Birds is a $.99 game app, and Smurfs Village is a free-to-play game in which players may buy “smurfberries” to use as virtual currency in the game.

The Smurfs movie, which stars Neil Patrick Harris (see “NPH in ‘Smurfs’ Movie”) and Sofia Vergera (see “Sofia Vergera in ‘Smurfs’”), will premiere August 3, 2011.
