One hundred seventy-six magazines closed their doors in 2010, a big drop from the 596 that shut down in 2009, according to MediaFinder.  In fact, there were actually more titles that launched (193) than shut down in 2010.

MediaFinder publisher Trish Hagoood attributed the decline in shutdowns to a bottoming of the market, according to Crain’s New York Business.

The year also marked a new magazine category, the iPad only title.  Five such titles were launched in 2010.
