Andy Serkis has reportedly signed on to reprise his role of the Gollum from Lord of the Rings in Peter Jackson’s two-part adaptation of The Hobbit. S erkis, who is close to becoming a standard feature in Peter Jackson’s movies, recently played Captain Haddock in the Tintin movies directed by Jackson and Steven Spielberg.

According to Deadline, Serkis may well be joined in The Hobbit movies by Ian McKellen, who is negotiating to return in his role as Gandolf, while Christopher Lee may also return as the evil wizard Saruman, and Ian Holm could be back as an older version of Bilbo Baggins (Martin Freeman has the lead role of the younger Bilbo).

Cate Blanchett and Elijah Wood recently signed up to return as Galadriel and Frodo (see “Blanchett in The Hobbit,” and “Elijah Wood to Appear in The Hobbit”) in Jackson’s Hobbit films, which are now fully financed by Warner Bros. (see “Warners Will Distribute The Hobbit”).
