With its narrative drive, its strong visuals and its JFK Cuban Missile Crisis voiceover narration, the new X-Men: First Class trailer made a huge impression when it debuted on the Web on Thursday. The number of the film’s followers on Facebook jumped by over 100,000 to 1.8 million within hours of the trailer’s release. The final shot of Magneto in a plane lifting a submarine out of the ocean is stunning. There have been rumors of troubles in the production of X-Men: First Class in part because the film has been produced under rather severe time constraints for a special effects-laden blockbuster (see “What’s Up With X-Men: First Class?”). A solid trailer does not a great movie make, but this one reminds viewers that X-Men: First Class has a very compelling story to tell.
