It’s back to square one, and perhaps back to Oblivion, for the movie project based on the as-yet-unpublished graphic novel by Tron Legacy director Joseph Kosinski. After hiring Karl Gajdusek (Trespass) to rewrite a script by William Monahan (The Departed), and renaming the film Horizons, Disney decided that the gritty $100+ million science fiction tentpole wasn’t really the Mouse House’s cup of tea.

Deadline reports that since Oblivion, which is supposed to see publication in graphic novel form this summer, was the object of a spirited bidding war between Disney, Paramount, Fox and Universal, the project will “get bought by somebody.”

Deadline also noted that Tom Cruise has shown an interest the sci-fi saga which is set on the devastated surface of a future Earth. Still, since only a few weeks ago the Mouse House appeared intent on putting Oblivion/Horizons on the fast track, this latest development has to be seen as another setback, however temporary, for Radical Publishing, which is yet to see one of its properties make it all the way to the big screen.
