Oscar-winning actor Geoffrey Rush, who recently racked up the plaudits for his Oscar-nominated performance as a vocal therapist in The King’s Speech, is about to give voice to Tomar-Re, the alien mentor of Green Lantern Hal Jordan in Martin Campbell's Green Lantern movie . The character of Tomar-Re, who first appeared in Green Lantern #6 in 1961, was a scientist on his home planet Xudar before joining the Green Lantern Corps. He was a close friend of Abin Sur and the first Lantern to meet Hal Jordan, who replaced Sur.

As the Los Angeles Times’ Hero Complex reported, since the character of the bird-beaked Tomar-Re in Martin Campbell’s $200+ million Green Lantern movie is entirely a CGI creation, it was possible for Warner Bros. to add the vocal talents of an Oscar-winning actor to the film just a little over ten weeks before it opens on June16th.

Will the inclusion of the hugely talented Aussie actor's vocal talents help with critics or bring a larger audience to theaters?  The answer to that question won't be known until June, but once again here's further proof that comic book movies can attract top flight acting talent.
