Game distributor ACD Distribution of Madison, Wisconsin is announcing Monday that it is opening a warehouse in Fresno, California to service the western United States.  According to ACD CEO Rich Kummer, this location will allow the ACD warehouse to service major California metro areas from San Diego to San Francisco with one-day UPS service.  Kummer said that ACD's California warehouse will carry the same number of SKUs as its Wisconsin warehouse, and will offer the same service levels.

ACD is the second largest distributor of games to game and hobby stores, after Diamond sister company Alliance.  This announcement follows by roughly a month the announcement by Centurion Hobby Distributors that it was opening a second warehouse in the Reno market (see 'Centurion Opens Western U.S. Warehouse').  After a year of major consolidation in the game distribution business (see 'Top Game Stories of 2001'), these expansions represent new competition for Alliance, which had been operating uncontested as the only game distributor with warehouses both east and west of the Rockies.
