Tom Hanks’ and Gary Goetzman’s Playtone will produce Neil Gaiman’s American Gods (see “American Gods on HBO?”) as a six season series for HBO, according to Hollywood Reporter. Each season will consist of 10-12 hour-long episodes, according to the report. Gaiman is on board as writer and executive producer.

The series will have a budget of $35-$40 million per season to allow for the effects necessary to depict the deities that appear in the story.

The new series will debut in 2013 at the earliest.
