Yen Press has announced the 2012 publication of a graphic novel based on Anne Rice’s groundbreaking novel Interview With a Vampire.  Interview With A Vampire: Claudia’s Story is not a recapitulation of the original Anne Rice novel, rather it provides a new perspective on the events in that innovative work, which are seen from the point of view of Claudia, an ancient vampire trapped in the body of an adolescent girl. 

 

Newcomer Ashley Marie Witter is providing the art for the new graphic novel under the watchful eyes of Anne Rice, who is very excited about the project: “Words cannot express my excitement about working with Yen Press.  Our project is an entirely new retelling of my first published work, Interview With the Vampire, narrated from the point of view of Claudia, the ancient vampire within an adolescent girl’s body.  Having already glimpsed early sketches of her, Louis, and my beloved Lestat, I’m amazed at how the characters have new life in rich color and gorgeous form.  Moreover you’ll see Claudia like you’ve never seen her before... beautiful, savage, vulnerable...  This graphic novel is just lovely!”

 

Interview With a Vampire: Claudia’s Story is slated for publication in the fall of 2012. Anne Rice’s 1976 novel Interview With a Vampire has sold more than 8 million copies worldwide and was made into a popular movie in 1994 starring Brad Pitt, Kirsten Dunst, Antonio Banderas, Christian Slater, and Tom Cruise.
