Rawson Thurber, the director of Dodgeball, is rewriting the screenplay of The Umbrella Academy for Universal.  Published by Dark Horse, The Umbrella Academy is an offbeat superhero saga written by Gerard Way, the front man for the band My Chemical Romance.  The innovative saga of a dysfunctional “family” of superheroes who reunite upon the death of their mentor won an Eisner Award for best limited series.

According to Deadline, The Umbrella Academy has been in development at Universal since 2008.  Mark Bomback wrote the first draft. Dark Horse also has R.I.P.D. set up with Ryan Reynolds to star at Universal where production is set to begin this fall.
