Variety is reporting that Spider-Man has now reached $815 million in worldwide box office, leading Sony to $2.75 billion in box office this year to date, a record for a single studio.  Men in Black II, another genre film, was Sony's second largest picture with $439 million in box office to date.

Meanwhile the Spider-Man video has been selling huge numbers, but not anywhere near the numbers that were shipped to retailers, according to Video Business' Scott Hettrick.  His November 22 column estimated that 16 to 21 million copies of the 26 million shipped would ultimately be sold (11 million of which were sold the first weekend, see 'Spider-Man Video Breaks Records') and the rest would be returned.  He predicts that some of the returns would eventually make their way into bundled packages with the DVD of the second movie.
