Wizards of the Coast and IDW Publishing have announced the fall launch of the first new Magic the Gathering comic book series in over a decade.  The initial 4-issue Magic the Gathering miniseries, which will be written by author and game designer Matt Forbeck (The Lord of the Rings RPG, The Marvel Encyclopedia), will focus on a unique new Planeswalker, a powerful mage with the ability to move between the worlds of the Magic Multiverse.  The comic will come with exclusive, playable, alternate-art cards for the Magic: The Gathering Trading Card Game, which will only be available in select issues of the IDW Magic: The Gathering comic book.

Martin Coccolo will provide the art for the first M:TG miniseries.  IDW plans to collect its Magic: The Gathering comics at intervals in trade paperback collections, in much the same way that it has with the new Dungeons & Dragons comic book series that it launched in 2010.  IDW also publishes comic based on other licensed Hasbro properties including Transformers and G.I. Joe.
