Marvel Comics has revealed the trade dress for the first wave of its Season One titles that will debut in 2012.  These standalone sagas modernize the origins of Marvel’s top characters for new readers while adding new revelations for longtime fans.  The Season One graphic novels are not collections of previously released comic books, but true “original” graphic novels.  The basic concept is to present modernized versions of the origin sagas of the prime Marvel characters written by some of today’ top comic book scribes (see “Marvel’s Season One Original Graphic Novels”).  The first volume in the series, Fantastic Four: Season One, by Roberto Aguirre-Sarcasa and David Marquez is due out in February.  It is clear that Marvel opted for a clean linear look in its choice of a trade dress to unite the new line.

The second volume X-Men: Season One by Dennis Hopeless and Jamie McKelvie goes on sale in March.

The final volume in the first wave of Season One titles, Spider-Man: Season One by Cullen Bunn (The Sixth Gun) and Neil Edward will ship in May.  The Spider-Man: Season One cover makes good use of extreme foreshortening and appears to be the best match with spare, linear look of the series’ trade dress.
