Star Trek 2 will begin shooting this winter with J.J. Abrams directing, according to the Vulture blog. A script is expected by the end of the month. 

Abrams had previously indicated he was likely to direct the sequel (see “Abrams Likely to Direct ‘Star Trek 2’”), but had not committed or set a date for production to start. Star Trek 2 will not make its originally scheduled June 2012 release date; no new date has been announced.
