Authorities in Michigan have tracked down John Fox, who was mentioned in police reports from the investigation of the murder of comic book retailer Michael George’s wife Barbara in 1990.  George is on trial for murder, accused of shooting his wife in the head. Fox will be on the witness stand on Friday to answer questions about a family car, a 1967-68 Mercury Cougar, which is similar to one seen near the scene of the crime.  George was convicted in 2008 on evidence that was almost completely circumstantial, but the conviction was overturned by a judge citing prosecutorial misconduct (see “Witness Grilled in Retailer Murder Case”).

According to the Detroit Free Press, Fox and another man, Tom England, who owned Troy Stamp and Coin and died in 2001, were mentioned in police reports that were found last Thursday by a retired Clinton Township police detective.  The reports were turned over to the prosecutors and defense attorneys last Friday, and the trial judge gave police 48 hours to locate the men and question them.

Defense attorney Carl Marlinga plans to ask Fox about an armed robbery at Troy Stamp and Coin in 1986 as well as about the car, which has similarities to one observed near the crime scene, which was the comic shop owned by George.
