Queen Games will release Kingdom Builder, a new board game of territory control by Donald X. Vaccarino, the designer of the award winning deckbuilding game Dominion, late this month.

In Kingdom Builder, the objective is simple: territory control.  Players must gain the most gold by building settlements and ultimately creating kingdoms.  A player’s turn consists of playing a terrain card and attempting to build settlements.  Players earn the ability to play extra actions if building in specific strategic locations.  Players earn gold by building normally, however there are special conditions listed on three Kingdom Builder cards that create a specific goal for players to reach to earn even more gold.

The game provides a specific strategic challenge, and like Vaccarino’s previous game, Dominion, Kingdom Builder has a “create as you play” game design.  For example, the game comes with eight different board sections, only four of which are used in the game, so the actual game board is variable from game to game.  In addition players will use a random set of Kingdom Builder cards and Special Action cards that create a different play experience in every session.

Included are the eight different board sections, 35 game cards, 29 tiles, 160 settlement markers, four gold markers, eight summary cards and instructions.  The game is for two to four players ages eight and up and plays in around an hour.

Kingdom Builder will receive its exclusive launch at Essen Spiel 2011, October 20-23, and will be released in North America the following week.  The game will retail for around $60.
