Dynamite Entertainment has announced an agreement with Amanda Hocking, the author of nine self-published e-books that have sold over a million copies online (and earned their author a contract with St. Martin’s Press).  Hocking specializes in young adult paranormal fiction and self-published three series of novels online including the vampire-themed My Blood Approves and the post-apocalyptic zombie saga The Hollows, which Dynamite will adapt into a series of graphic novels.

Although there will certainly be a print component to this agreement, Dynamite sees its agreement with Hocking, who is one of just six authors to have sold over a million e-books online, as a means, in the words of Dynamite’s CEO Nick Barrucci, to tap “the potential and create awareness with a new audience, a younger audience, a digital audience, for comics.”

Hocking, who is just 27, is a self-described “comics fan” and her works display great familiarity with a wide range of pop culture narratives, from Star Wars to Tolkien to Twilight, but first and foremost, she is an accomplished storyteller.  Details concerning the adaptation of Hocking’s The Hollows, which features the capable and resourceful 19-year-old heroine Remy King, will be released in the near future.
